The Beginnings
From coastal trade to sailing
around the world
A day after its establishment, Splošna Plovba purchased its first ocean-going vessel, our legendary steamship ROG, which was the first vessel in the fleet to sail around the globe. She made her maiden voyage around the globe in 1955/56, sailing 28,000 Nm in 150 days.
From its beginnings, Splošna Plovba focused on cargo transports. Our coastal trade department operated as a separate subdivision, however, cargo activities gradually diminished and were finally closed down in the seventies of the past century.
Motor vessel SEČA of steel construction was employed in short coastal trade for transporting various cargoes.
