Seafarers Inspire Life to the Vessels
To assure a safe navigation of vessels, each vessel must have the adequate number of crew members who comply with required technical qualification profile.
As a rule, the work on board of a vessel is organized in shifts:
4 hours at work, 8 hours rest time, followed by 4 hours at work and 8 hours rest time. The same routine applies to all days in the week. The seafarers on vessels of Splošna plovba are assigned to deck, engine room and catering department.
The future Slovene seafarers are trained at the Maritime and Technical Education Centre of Portorož and at the Faculty of Maritime Studies and Transport. The profiles for certain duties also come from the applicable professional schools. Seafarers need additional training required by the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (the SCTW Convention) before going on board.
